Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts (New Media Arts) – Cinemedia (Australian National University), Bachelor of Arts (New Media Arts) – Honours  (Australian National University).

Short Biography: Laura underwent her undergraduate degree in New Media Arts at the ANU. During this time she fulfilled several roles within her residential hall as First Year Representative, Communications Officer and then President of the Residents’ Committee. In addition, Laura interned at the National Film and Sound Archives (NFSA), where she curated a collection of fashion films for the Mediatheque at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. During Laura’s Honours year she continued her involvement at Fenner Hall as Sub-Dean and Coordinator of the Aid and Development Learning Community. Laura graduated with First Class Honours in New Media Arts majoring in film theory and practice. Her thesis entitled Documenting the Rural Way: Filmmaking Style, Practices and Ethics in Representing Rural Australia included commentary on her own filmmaking process during the making of her Honours short documentary Chatting With Bill (see more at http://news.anu.edu.au/?p=12491). Upon graduating, Laura was awarded the Tillyard Prize, the oldest and most prestigious prize available to bachelor degree students of the University (see more at http://cass.anu.edu.au/story/tillyard-prize-awarded-laura-clarke). Laura has just started her own freelance filmmaking business, making films for a variety of ANU initiatives. She is Conference Coordinator for Visible Evidence 2012, an international documentary conference to be hosted at the ANU and NFSA (see more at http://www.visibleevidence2012.com/). She is also currently Research Assistant to Professor David MacDougall (http://rsh.anu.edu.au/people/profile_system/public.php?id=115). As Visiting Fellow, Laura is making a short documentary film on the fiftieth year of relations between Australia and the EU and the relating events being hosted by the ANUCES (http://ces.anu.edu.au/australia-and-europe-conversation-50-years-eu-australia-relations).

Research Interests: The role of film as an advocate and the ethical implications of documentary filmmaking.
